Section 1: Overview and equipment
Welcome, new researcher!
This document will go over the basics of what you need to know in order to perform your duties as a Level 1 Junior Researcher!
Starting off, as a Junior Researcher (The entry level into the branch, Resarch) it will be your duty to assist in the daily duties of research!
These duties include:
-Testing on Safe-Class SCPs in the Light Containment Zone
-Assisting fellow Researchers in tests
-Interacting with Class-D personnel
-Interviewing Class-D, Foundation personnel, and SCPs.
Facility Codes
There are 6 Facility codes each with its own meaning, they go as follows:
Green - Normal Facility Activities
Yellow - A Safe or Euclid level SCP is breached.
Red - Multiple Safe or Euclid level SCPs have breached, OR a Keter level SCP is breached. Research are to halt testing in any zones affected by the breach.
Lockdown - There is currently a D-Class breach, a UA (Unknown Anomaly), or an intruder in the facility. Research are to halt testing in any zones affected.
Orange - The facility is under attack. Research is to shelter in the R-Wing or Evacuation Shelter.
Blue - There is a comms breach. Maintain radio silence.
THE GOLDEN RULE
When patrolling or traveling, unless the facility is under Code Red or Lockdown, ALWAYS CLOSE DOORS BEHIND YOU.
Equipment
Your standard equipment as a Junior Resarcher will be a Clipboard, Notepad and Radio.
You are NOT permitted to have weapons or armor unless there is an active Code Red, D-Class breach or Code Orange, and you have permission from a Security Sergeant+, Senior Researcher+, or STF personnel. You must return all weapons and armor after the situation is over. In this situation, you are still limited to pistols.
Chain of Command
In Research, the Chain of Command is as follows, starting from the bottom:
Junior Researcher > Researcher > Senior Researcher > Research Supervisor (R.O.C.) & Head Surgeon (R.O.C.) > Head Researcher (R.O.C.)
(R.O.C. stands for "Research Operational Command". They are in charge of running the branch.)
// It is okay if you do not grasp it at first, if you ever need a reminder of the chain of command, just check the F4 menu and they will be listed in ranking order.
Section 2: Other branches
There are four main branches in the facility:
-GenSec (General Security)
-TRT (Tactical Response Team)
-Medical
-STF (Stationary Task Force)
-Research
A quick overview of the other branches and their duties:
GenSec
The main forces of the facility. They are responsible for the day-to-day safety of the facility and respond to all threats
TRT
The response force for when General Security is overwhelmed, it is compromised of the most competent and skilled of General Security
Medical
In charge of ensuring injured personnel are properly seen to and kept alive
STF
STF is the best of the best. They are in charge of the HCZ (Heavy Containment Zone) and are the absolute powerhouse in facility defense
Section 3: SCPs
As a member of Research, you will have a few major SCPs you will be tasked in testing. This will quickly list the most common ones and a brief description of what they do.
It will also list several SCPs that you should not be interacting with very commonly, though they are important to know:
The testing requirements can be found here
SCP-173
SCP-173 is a large concrete statue that can only move when not being viewed. It snaps any humanoids neck that is not viewing it.
SCP-131
SCP-131-A/B are small eyepods that roll around. They are friendly and never blink. They cannot speak, but can "meep."
SCP-294
SCP-294 is a vending machine which can dispense most things that are typed into its keypad.
SCP-999
SCP-999 is a orange blob which is invincible, can shapeshift and can tickle people to make them happy.
SCP-2300s
SCP-2300s are a collection of small golems made from elements on the periodic table. They will ask for materials to create "Art". Said art is anomalous and usually has unknown effects.
SCP-105
SCP-105 is a young adult female who is capable of manipulating items through photographs.
SCP-035
SCP-035 is a white porcelain mask that can lure and possess humans to wear him, killing the person hosted and granting 035 a body.
SCP-049 and SCP-049-2
SCP-049 is a male humanoid who dons the apparel of a medieval plague doctor. It can kill instantly with skin to skin contact, and can create instances of SCP-049-2 from effected subjects. 049-2s are zombies.
SCP-096
SCP-096 is an abnormally tall and lanky pasty white humanoid who kills anyone who sees its face.
SCP-106
SCP-106 is a male humanoid who appears to be decaying. It will walk slowly at a target and force it into its PD (Pocket Dimension).
SCP-682
SCP-682 is a large reptile that can regenerate any lost mass. It is incredibly hostile and hard to harm.
Section 4: Researching
As a member of Research, you will be tasked with testing on SCPs, creating new tools, researching anything out-of-the-ordinary and brainstorming ideas. It is important to follow some basic rules and concepts while doing these things.
While testing on an SCP, you are required to follow the testing requirements (linked in Section 3). If you fail to meet the requirements, you will be subject to punishment.
When you have met the testing requirements and wish to test on an SCP, you should first come up with a hypothesis or goal for your test.
Your hypothesis does not have to be extremely detailed, rather it should explain what you are testing, what you want to happen, and why you think that will happen. Your hypothesis does not have to be correct (usually most hypothesis' are proven wrong) and you will never be punished for having an incorrect hypothesis.
Once you have your hypothesis, think of what procedures you will follow to complete your test. What materials are needed? What will you do, and in what order? Think about how to make sure you and your fellow personnel will make safe, and how to conduct the test efficiently.
Finally, conduct the test. You do not have to strictly follow your procedures, but it is recommended to do so. Once the test is finished, log the results on the forums and all personnel involved, including your hypothesis and testing procedures.
When creating tools, or testing on UAs, follow the same procedures.
That is the end of the IC (In-Character) sections. This next section is OOC (Out-Of-Character) information regarding some of the custom features that you will need to use for RP purposes.
The Inventory System
When you press F1, you should see this menu:
This is your inventory menu. On the left is where your equipped items are held.
For worn gear you can equip:
-A headgear
-A helmet
-Body armor
-Pants
-A Uniform
For weapons and equipment:
-One primary
-One secondary
-Three equipments (Cuffs, batons, etc.)
The middle section is your inventory, on the right is crafting, and the bar above is where you can edit your description.
The Suit-Zoom Menu
When you suit-zoom (Default B), you should see this:
This is the menu used for interacting with certain object or people, performing gestures, and using the /roll command. (we will touch on rolling soon.)
This is usually used when you want to show your ID, so its important to know it.
In-Character Actions
IC actions are usually done with the "/me" command. For example:
"/me sips her coffee"
or in research,
"/me examines the cube, looking for anything out of the ordinary"
When you are performing an action that would require skill to perform, or are in the middle of using it for combat, you will need to utilize rolls.
this is achieved with the aforementioned Suit-Zoom Menu.
When you want to roll, open the menu and roll for the type of skill your action would require, like so:

If you are in combat, to win you must roll higher than your opponent. The winner gets to choose their next action first.
If you are rolling against yourself (Usually for when you are rolling to pick something up or examine something), this is called a "self roll" and you will only need to roll above a 50.
Radio Commands
To use your respective radio channels, there are commands that speak in each one over text chat.
/f is for all foundation personnel. Anyone who is playing a foundation job will see this message.
("/f Who is currently in R-Wing?")
/res is for research. Anyone who is playing foundation research will see this message.
("/res I need a hot cup of coffee.")
If you drop your radio, or it is destryoed, you will not be able to send or receive radio communications.
