SCP-1048-A Creation and Recording Test ; (12/17/2022)

Would be Conducted by Dr. Cinga Solomon

Assisted by Dr. Blackwood and Dr. Anderson

Authorized by  Overseer Jackson

________________________________________________________________________________________

Equipment/Material(s) Used: minimum 3 D-Class though more will likely be needed throughout the test, earmuffs for all personnel in HCZ, 1 Camera, notepad, containment cube, 14-18 human ears, one advanced audio recording device that be playback recordings remotely, Hume Levels Reader

Personnel Involved: 1 HRT Lieutenant, 1 HRT Sergeant, 2 HRT Weapon Specialist

SCP(s) or UA(s) Involved:  SCP-1048 and SCP-1048-A

 ________________________________________________________________________________________

Purpose of Test:

Retrieve a recording of SCP-1048-A creation(if possible) vocalization for multiple purposes.

  1. Identify if it still causes its anomalous effect over recordings.

  2. Identify if the use of anti-psionic medication can prevent the anomalous effect from occurring.

  3. Possible weaponization of the anomalous recording for MTF Teams to use in defense of Area-36.

  4. If anti-psionic medication shows ineffective and D-Class perish, other Research or Medical Staff trained to perform an autopsy can attempt to see what other tests could be run to stop the anomalous effect from taking hold.

  5. Lastly, if weaponization is possible, the recorded SCP-1048-A vocalization could also be used in termination testing of multiple keter class SCPs(ie SCP-096,-682,-076-2). Though I would recommend animal trials before using the recording on SCPs, just to be sure the effect doesn't only apply on humans.

Hypothesis:

I believe the recording will still work the same as SCP-1048-A itself, and if it doesn't we will at least have learned that it isn't the scream that causes victims of SCP-1048-A to experience the anomalous effect. As for the effectiveness of the pill that is up in the air, the SCP-1048-A needs to scream for the test so I might as well see if the scream is psionic in any capacity. If it is then we have found a better way to contain SCP-1048-A, if it isn't then we can move on to other tests. As for the weaponization and testing of weaponized versions of SCP-1048-A scream will be saved for other tests.

Test Procedure:

Before testing can occur, roughly 14-18 human ears will be acquired from previously deceased D-Class from other tests. A camera will also be placed in the room at a place SCP-1048 will not be able to reach, however if the camera is dismounted from the wall the current test will be stopped and SID will enter the CC to remove the camera to avoid SCP-1048 creating something from it.

First step: After all personnel have been acquired, quipped, and briefed of the dangers of SCP-1048 half the team will head to SCP-1048's CC with myself to set up while the other half moves to acquire the three D-Class. Once all D-Class arrive an announcement will be made over the PA System that all staff entering HCZ for the duration of the test should be equipped with sound canceling earmuffs. Once we have confirmed everyone has their earmuffs ready the three D-Class will enter the CC, one with a box of ears and one with a camera designed to stick to the wall so SCP-1048 can't reach it from the ground level or through jumping. The D-Class will be informed to dump the box of ears on the floor, it is also worth noting the D-Class will be told they are fake ears to avoid non-compliance.

Second Step: One D-Class will be sat in front of a terminal with a notepad to attempt watching SCP-1048 create SCP-1048-A so he can write what he sees on the paper. I will not let any other staff watch the terminal until it is confirmed it doesn't pose a memetic threat to those watching. If SCP-1048 doesn't create SCP-1048-A with the camera in the room after five minutes the D-Class will be instructed to enter the CC again to remove the camera.

Third Step(Camera intact): Monitor the D-Class for any positive or negative reaction to watching SCP-1048 work. If the D-Class shows any signs of harming personnel while watching the feed the D-Class will be detained if possible or killed if he shows any anomalous reactions. This to protect staff as well as save studying the effects of watching SCP-1048 create SCP-1048-A for a later date. If all is well however the footage will be saved for later review.

Third Step Continued(D-Class shows no anomalous reaction to film, or no camera intact): Once we can verify that SCP-1048-A has manifested two D-Class that were not watching the feed will enter the CC. One will dismount the camera while the other attempts to place SCP-1048-A in a containment cube. If the D-Class fails and SCP-1048-A screams, SID will be tasked with entering the room and securing the SCP-1048-A with a cube. The bodies of the D-Class will be secured once SCP-1048-A is safely removed from the room.

Fourth Step: Bring SCP-1048-A to a secure testing site, if only Research Wing is available for this then another announcement will be made that all staff in LCZ will need to wear sound canceling earmuffs for the duration of the test. Once secure one D-Class will enter the room with an audio recording device, the Hume Levels Reader, a knife, and having taken one of Dr. Jackson's anti-psionic pills he has been working on. After placing the recording device down the D-Class will attempt to threaten the SCP-1048-A instance to get a scream. If one D-class isn't enough, two of them will enter the room together to threaten the SCP into screaming. If no success is shown then sadly all three will enter the room with the same orders.

Fifth Step: Once the recording is acquired, SCP-1048-A will be terminated and all bodies of those affected by the anomaly will be taken to the Autopsy section of the research wing. The recording will be played near a D-Class by activating the device remotely. The audio recording is to be secured and if it was able to record the effect it will likely be placed in the vault until a use for it can be determined by someone of higher authority than I. After all that is finished and equipment returned all that is left is to analyze the results and make my conclusion.

Observations:

Three D-Class were not accessible before the test so we made due with two D-Class. After HRT escort to SCP-1048's CC I asked a new junior researcher to take notes. These are the observation made by Dr. Anderson who I commend for their help in this test: ( [####] is something I add for a better reading experience.)

  • A camera is setup to record the creation of 1048-A.

  • D-class have deposited 18 human ears into 1048’s cc

  • 1048 seemed ecstatic over the ears

  • 1048 begins to make an instance of 1048-A

  • 1048 can be seen pacing the room [after] 1048 finished making -A using only 14 of the ears[An Important note for future test with SCP-1048-A involved]

  • 1048-A was spooked by D-class during capture [attempt] and screamed

  • [HRT have trouble dealing with D-Class and SCP-1048-A while they attempt to contain the SCP. Multiple members are exposed to SCP-1048-A's scream, luckily The headphones helped enough to stop them from growing ears.]

  • Both D-class were terminated

  • [HRT under my orders enter LHCZ spare CC area to contain -A apart from 1048]

  • Doctor Solomon enters spare CC where -A was relocated to install recording equipment

  • A third D-class was sent in to threaten 1048-A to record its scream [The D-Class was also given Anti-Psionic Pill in hopes that SCP-1048-A's scream would be nullified by the pill]

  • D-class died to scream [slowly being turned into ears and] 48-A escaped the spare CC

  • [Debate is held to have] talks of termination [for] 1048-A [after all recordings are removed from the room for review]

  • [-A is] recontained in temporary CC in LHCZ.

  • Decision was made to terminate it. [Since we have no Spare CC that is soundproof I gave the order for termination of SCP-1048-A]

  • 1048-A terminated [by HRT with Medical Captain Parsilyev's assistance in calming SCP-1048-A so it could be put in a containment box and burned]

  • [HRT report to Medbay for check-up for any

  • [All recordings are reviewed without audio to protect staff. During scream recordings shows a small spike in hume and a moderate spike in psionics but the data seems somewhat inconsistent. The same is true for the recording of SCP-1048's Screams audio recording, review indicates that the audio seems fragmented and as though its not fully captured.]

  • [Review of the creation of SCP-1048-A shows 1048 sewing 1048-A with a thread and needle he seems to pull from nowhere. SCP-1048-A seems to become animate shortly after 1048-A's last ear is sewn on and 1048 seems to help it up.]

Analysis and Conclusion:

Reviewing all recordings leaves much to be desired from further test. Reviewing the notes at the top of the document shows which were a success, which were pending, and which failed.

  • Across the board all either failed or are still pending. Due to the large loss of D-Class during the test I stopped before the recording could be properly played back. I will attempt to continue the audio recording playback test on a later date.

  • Furthermore, the recorded Hume and psionic scaling are inconsistent and it is hard to tell how -A's scream causes its effects. Further testing into this could be considered after other footnotes are dealt with.

  • Finally, as a conclusion I would like to recommend SCP-1048-A have its own CC constructed in one of LHCZ'c spare CC that is custom fitted to be soundproof so that further test don't require 14 human ears for each occurrence. Also, it is fairly easy to contain as long as staff remember to not swarm it if it breaches. If this is accepted then we should email engineering staff so they know the specs the CC will need to be modified too. I also will list my other recommendations for containment procedures. 1.) No staff should enter SCP-1048's CC with a weapon except in the event of testing 2.) No more than two staff should be in SCP-1048's CC at a time, and only one of them is allowed to approach SCP-1048-A 3.) All staff in the Spare CC area should be wearing earmuffs at all times during handling/testing of SCP-1048-A.

Additional Notes:

// Blackwood recorded the test and helped but his video files got corrupted, oof
