Purpose of Test

To catalog the Sarktic book and attempt to correlate the text within with known information about Sarktics and contents of other books.

Hypothesis

Through analyzing the text we can begin to further learn more about the Sarktics and more effectively combat their hostile efforts. We can also begin to learn more about the entities surrounding the Sarktic canon.

Test Procedures

Within the vault, we will begin by analyzing page-by-page while taking photographs of them. Following this, a black light will be used to analyze the components not visible to human eyes, these will again be photographed.

From there we will begin comparing the photographed materials to existing Sarktic texts and translating visible components.

If the tester were to become compromised despite the Vault’s security precautions the tester will be restrained or executed as is the safest option determined by the ranking officer.

If a cytomancy entity is spawned then the entity will be terminated with fire and the remains incinerated.

Following Day 1 testing the test will continue but with the following updates to the procedure. A thermal camera and heat sensor will be trained on the room at all times and monitored by a member of the vault security. Vault Security will have sole authority to declare the end of the test, if I am unable or unwilling to comply I will be placed into custody immediately and an evaluation performed by Vault Security present. Following the conclusion of the analysis, I will exit the room with the book and be placed in a holding cell and my vitals and mental faculties analyzed by the Vault Security. At their discretion, I will be released to translate the pages or to exit the vault. In the case of translation the same procedure will be followed as outlined above when dealing with the book itself. If released back to the main facility I will then submit to a psychological evaluation to determine if I am within the baseline, which will be determined prior to the test. All photos will be held in the Vault and will be viewable with permission in compliance with UA-Sarktic guidelines.

Observations

Testing Day 1

Page 1: The first-page reads Church of the First Flesh, written by a Highpriest Eddard, the black light reveals a hidden cipher in Amarangnan the sarktic language, it seems to be a basic guide to reading Amarangna. While the first photo was a normal shot of the book, the second photo shows a figure best described as a cultist on the other side of the table in a neutral pose. Security is alerted to this but it is decided to continue for the time being.

Page 2: Turning to the second page it is also written entirely in Amarangna. When taking the picture the cultist can still be seen and has rolled up their sleeves and slit their wrists. Dr. Simons requests a scan of the room using the Vault Securities thermal goggles be performed but no abnormalities are detected. Under the black light, a thaumaturgical sigil is visible. When the picture is taken the cultist is seen writing the same sigil in his own blood on the table. Vault Security reports seeing no changes.

Page 2 Translation: The first page seems to be discussing the ritualistic heart of the Sarktic practice. It also goes in-depth on the concepts of evolving one's form and gaining power. The mention of evolution could be a mistranslation of apotheosis but I'm unsure. This is in line with my theory that this book is meant for initiates. The sigil appears to have some defensive purpose but I am not well-versed in cytomancy, so I'll be sending this to Site 11 to my knowledge they have a better chance of deciphering this than I do. At worst I send it to the Site 19 thaumaturgy department, though they might not be happy to see I'm messing with magic again.

Page 3: This page is also written in Amarangna. The picture shows the cultist is seen staring at Dr. Simons. Under the black light, a different sigil is visible on the page. When photographing this Dr. Simons’ hands are shown drawing the sigil in blood however Dr. Simons reports doing no such thing and Vault Security reports no odd behavior besides the doctor's obvious discomfort.

Page 3 Translation: This page describes an entity, and how to summon it. While the first review I assumed it was created using cytomancy otherwise known as the sarktic art of flesh crafting I realized it's based on time and space manipulation. This seems bizarre to me and deviates from my theory, the only explanation is this church of the First Flesh may be more trusting. I'm not sure, or possibly something was left out here. The text suggests it has low-level reality-bending abilities but provides no example or gauge of how powerful these are. The sigil despite my hypothesis it was the sigil to summon the shambler but it is in fact made to bind it. This is unusual to me as many cytomancy-based rituals have the binding woven into them, then again this isn't cytomancy. This explains why this is in a book seemingly for initiates, even if you know how to summon the creature you couldn't control it without this sigil.

Page 4: The page seems dedicated to a specific ritual depicting a nude figure with flesh removed, as if in an anatomy textbook, the book points to various locations on the body labeling and describing them it seems. The picture shows the cultist looking at Simon while they bleed, blood is seemingly coming from the book as well. The black light reveals a far more in-depth version of the ritual. The picture taken shows the cultist reaching out to grab Dr. Simons, who then visibly recoils, stepping away from the table and to the other side of the room to recover from his shock. Upon request from Dr. Simons Vault Security reported thermals show the room as a blinding white while the interior was reported as the normal cold temperature, when resetting the thermal camera a figure was momentarily observed approaching the vault security before returning to normal. Dr. Simons reported feeling claustrophobic for a moment, claiming it was likely the suit.

Page 4 Translation: This page seems to be depicting and describing how the shambler uses its ability to pass through time and space to combat foes more effectively. The image seems to be showing it manifesting multiple sigils to accomplish this. This would make the shambler an extremely dangerous threat, and this is just one of its more defensive capabilities, I see no mention of the limitations of its ability. The blacklight reveals symbols allowing the augmentation of the existing sigils to allow the shambler to have sentience. This would theoretically allow it to work with the caster, how much I'm unsure.

Page 5: As expected the next page is written in Amaranga, the picture shows Dr. Simons is about to cut their own wrist with a scalpel which he didn't possess at the time. While preparing to use the black light whispering was heard instructing Simons to turn to the next page and to take off his suit. Upon learning this Vault Security orders the test to be concluded.

Page 5 Translation: This page has caught me off guard as it seems to refer to SCP-610, at first I assumed it was how to create one but it's much worse. Somehow this seems to be a means to enhance an existing SCP-610 or transform it into something a great deal smarter. I theorize this may be how some of the more dangerous instances that were responsible for most of the incidents at the SCP-610 containment zone were created but I have no evidence of this. However, upon analyzing the black light text it's even worse. These are augmented SCP-610 instances able to act as leaders to packs of SCP-610 as well they are capable of using psionics to an unspecified degree. This makes them an immense threat the likes of which we have thankfully not seen.

The doctor initially was putting the book in its containment cube when he reported a need to open the book and unfortunately did so. Upon doing so, it seems he triggered a cytomancy-based trap. This trap summoned a flesh monster standing on three stick legs. It attempted to attack Dr. Simons who retreated. The book was recovered and the entity was incinerated without issues as the creature became trapped between the wall of the testing chamber and the containment cube.

End of Day 1 Log.

Notes: Following these events, I am reevaluating the security procedures and am going to be requesting memetics training for the safety of me and my peers. The translations will commence after that time.

Testing Day 2: Vault Security contacted and briefed measures set up. The test began without incident.

Page 6: The page depicts an individual inserting a key into their forehead, whether this is a metaphorical depiction or literal is unclear. While I suspected a thaumaturgical trap caused the emergence of the hostile flesh craft creature previously I could find no sign of it, this may be because it was burned up after one use, or that the summon was somehow caused by a build-up of thaumaturgical energy. It may be wise to leave something to siphon off energy from the book if this issue is reoccurring.

Page 6 Translation: The page seems to be explaining rituals and means to unlock knowledge and power lost to humans. There is a small amount about the history of the cult rediscovering these, it is minimal but interesting.

Page 7: Page 7 is of great interest to me, it depicts a knife of fascinating design that appears to resemble a kunai however the pommel instead of an enclosed circle, is a spread half circle with symbols carved into it.

Page 7 Translation: The text describes this knife as a Sarktic Artifact called the Dagger of Ion. This is incredibly interesting as to my knowledge this item has never been mentioned before in Sarktic texts that have been analyzed, suggesting this may be a new anomaly, or it could be the equivalent of the Catholic church's many holy relics, that is to say having no real significance. Such as Saint Grover’s comb.

Testing was concluded for the day and the book returned to the containment chamber without incident.

Analysis

Day 1 Analysis: After initiation members of the Sarktic sects whether they are proto or neo-sarkites will over time be given modifications through cytomancy or flesh craft. Using these arts a large number of analogous modifications are possible however commonly seen among the higher members of the cults are modifications to the eyes, allowing for sight in a larger spectrum of light. What I think we are looking at is the reason they do this. This book I think is meant for initiates to the sect to learn about the crafts and ways of their new group. When translated I suspect the pages will describe the sigils revealed under the black light.

As the members of the sect rise in rank and gain new abilities they will be able to access this newer broader range of knowledge. It would be a good way to limit initiates' knowledge until you trust them, and a way to really reward them for their loyalty. While it may seem easy to find for secret writing I will remind the reader that it took the Foundation decades to theorize the Sarktics we're hiding texts.

Unfortunately, the Foundation’s access to these texts is limited as the Sarktics have a habit of burning these books when the Foundation performs raids. One sect even had a system similar to cockroaches. When distressed the individual will release distress signals through scent markers to the group, alerting the group to danger, this sends the group into high alert before you can even find the rest. Well, it was discovered in this one sect when this signal became strong enough the living library they possessed had a failsafe when detecting that chemical distress calls the books would cannibalize themselves. I am cautiously excited to begin the translations and cannot wait to try and confirm my theories.

After translations I am on the fence on whether my analysis is correct. While it seems yes possibly it is there is a lot of info in here that doesn't feel like it would be given to an initiate. So possibly an intermediate member of some kind. The shambler for example seems to tell them about the entity but to summon it under your control you must have access to the modifications that are hidden.

I think with the details provided we could in theory summon the shambler. While this could be dangerous, this is a chance to see an entity the likes of which we had no idea the Sarktics had access to. The book also explains how to dispel and how to control the entity, and from what I can tell it doesn't have to be cast by a Sarktic.

Half of this book seems to be theoretical, the other half instructional, especially at the start where it discusses in-depth the nature of summoning in Sarktic practices. Generally, the Sarktics prefer to create instead of summon. I theorize it is because it is getting too close to Yaldabaoth and her Archons realm. This however seems to be a deviation.

Day 2 Analysis: After reading further I do believe I was correct, that after this round of testing that this book is instructional to a more intermediate class of Sarktic. But the Sixth page is interesting, I'm unable to decide whether the depiction here is metaphorical or literal.

The knife is of the most interest to me as this is an artifact I believe the foundation currently does not contain. While the book makes no mention of where it is, the power it seems to possibly hold should be of great concern and be placed into safekeeping as soon as possible.

Conclusion

Following this, I am excited to follow a small array of tests and fields of research this opens up. However, for the time being, I believe I shall be halting my work as my mental health has taken a bit of a toll after this experiment. I will be requesting a psychological evaluation as soon as possible.

Anyone wishing to view the photos and data should contact the Vault Security as the drive containing the data is held with the book. I would recommend only those with memetic resistance training interact with the book.

I am also considering giving a lecture on Sarkism in the future as I've begun to learn that a large number of our staff haven't even heard of them. Even though we've had two sarktic anomalies onsite at least.
